Jessica Ennis – Autobiography at 26: Really? Unbelievable!

No I had not heard of this bird until today when I find a full page profile in a copy of the Metro lying on my train. Apparently she won an Olympic Gold in the Heptathlon and is 26 and her autobiography is out this week. I accept she is reasonably fit but the book is Unbelievable. No it really is.

Unbelievable is the title. And the whole idea. Ms Ennis won her gold just over three months ago. And we are expected to believe that she has all by herself managed to knock out her whole life story in just a few weeks. No help at all Jessica?

What is the story? Well she grew up in Sheffield. Oh here we go. Northern hardship, bullied at school, blah, blah, blah. And then she trained hard and won a gold medal at the Olympics. With her life over, the book must be next. Except of course that her life is not over. She has at least 4 more years at the top and might win another gold in whichever City wants to be bankrupted by the games next time. She might even have a career after being paid to run fast. Of course that would mean new autobiographies.

And that would mean more money for whichever publisher is serving up this drivel and for Ms Ennis as well.

Oh to be reminded once again of those lofty Olympian ideals.
