First it was Sir Bradley Wiggins who had to use medication which would have enhanced his performance even though he had written that he had no health issues at the time. No problems Sir Brad you are not a Chinese swimmer you are British and a sir and a cyclist so clearly you are no cheat.
Now it is four times tour de France winner Chris Froome caught with unusual drugs in his system during a race. Chis says he suffers from asthma and the asthma got so bad during the Tour of Spain that he was winning the race. Oops no what he said was that it got so bad that he had to take some medication to treat it. That the medication can enhance performance is a lucky coincidence but the point is that Chris needed it not to enhance but to negate the effects of asthma which had become so severe that he was wearing the leaders jersey at the time.
Of course Chris is not a Chinese swimmer but a Brit and a cyclist and an all round good chap so there is nothing to question here. He was so ill that he was winning an incredibly demanding bike race and so had to take some drugs.
Does anyone sense a slight double standard in the way we view drug use and cheating by athletes?
