We all know that if you are seeking asylum then you must do so in the first safe territory you come to. When I seek sanctuary in the land of the free, I shall thus fly direct to Moscow to kiss the hand of President Putin.
If you do not seek sanctuary in a safe place you arrive at but instead head off to another country, you merely become an economic migrant with greatly reduced rights. So I have no intention of flying first to Poland before arriving in Mother Russia.
Yet the BBC has just sent out the tweet below concerning the large numbers of folks crossing the English Channel from France seeking sanctuary in the UK. The BBC says ALL these folks come from “some of the poorest and most chaotic parts of the world.” But they ALL come from France which I had always thought was safe, prosperous and rather ordered. But apparently the BBC knows better or is this just an outrageous slur on la belle France? If so, it is yet another reason to defund the BBC.
