The main living room at the Welsh Hovel is now complete. Ancient beams have been exposed, the sash windows mended but the crowning glory is the fireplace. The three photos below show the amazing transformation.
The first is what we found on arrival, a 1970s special surrounded by plasterboard. My comrade in defending libel cases, Brokerman Dan, removed that and unearthed the 1600s original, complete with marks on the beam to ward off evil spirits and witches. The beam was cleaned and stained, the walls replastered and painted. And, last week, the chimney was relined and an antique Belgian wood stove installed. The room is warm and a credit to all involved.
