The battle lines are clear. 77% of us who have a view think that BLM is increasing racial division in Britain. Of those who have a view, most BAME folks also slate BLM for the same reason. In the redoubt of those still pushing a BLM agenda are the woke campaigners from academia, the arts and the media, especially the BBC.
BBC Comedy, especially on Radio 4, but increasingly on the TV, has been notable mainly for not being at all funny. But it has compounded this by trying to play its part in the culture wars. Trying to find a right wing comedian on the BBC is like trying to find a Tory sociology lecturer at a new University with Metropolitan in its name. You might as well not bother.
And so this Christmas, the vicar of Dibley, played by Dawn French, will be taking a knee for George Floyd and preaching on BLM. Now you might think this was a satire on the pathetic state of the Church of England whose leaders perennially lecture their dwindling flocks on the evils of racism driven Brexit and man made global warming while insisting that everyone wears masks. Perhaps if the C of E talked about God and sin now and again it might actually have some relevance.
But no. The Vicar of Dibley is not satirising the hopeless C Of E. She is making a political statement. For that is what millionaire celebs like Dawn French think their role is: to educate we thick plebs on higher truths. BBC Comedy is part of that process of re-education the masses. And we plebs are forced, under threat of jail, to pay both Ms French’s bloated salary and for the wider re-education programme.
Time to buy another Christmas present for a lefty you love and #DefundtheBBC
