P, who has been looking after the gardens here at the Welsh Hovel during my near two month absence, has left them in great shape as photos that will follow over the next few days will show. But he also left a couple of gifts.
First up is the bear who, it has been decided, will stay sitting at the big table eating his porridge, for the foreseeable future. And then there is this jar, which is about a foot high and was found in a barn here. It contains – bar a few eggs – produce entirely from the garden: radishes, carrots, peppers, beans and gherkins which we appear to have in abundance. In fact we have more gherkins than I can handle and I have agreed to barter a few for some cucumbers as my cucumber plants in Joshua’s bit of the garden failed to take.
