Photo Article: Day two of the Greek Hovel olive harvest 2022, I gather it is minus 3 in London

I hope that you are all wrapped up warm back in Blighty. I do not want to make you all jealous but this was my work atire all day, here in Greece. Yes, as you can see below, it was T-shirt weather.


Myself and harvester T started at 7.45 AM, had only a 20 minute lunch break as we set ourselves a target of 20 trees to harvest.  Every hour or so T would say gloomily “I don’t think we will manage 20 trees”. Guess what folks? At 4.30 with the light starting to fade we finished the 20th tree. I reckon we now have 200-250 kg of olives which should yield 24-30 litres of oil worth up to 120 – 150 Euro. 


Tomorrow, more sun is forecast and we push on. Tonight we head to Kambos to boast of our labours and to see if we can find an Albanian to assist us in picking up the pace.
