This year the raw vodka, made with apples, is home made not bought cheaply from Lidl. It was not meant to be vodka but that is another story. But it tastes like vodka not apples so has been put in jars with sugar and plums picked from the old tree behind where the snake barn used to be. It had a terrible 2022 but this year is dripping with plums which I have handed to my in-laws and neighbours but we are still drowning in them.
Anyhow, the plum vodka jars need to be turned every fortnight to ensure the sugar all disappears. The vodka was clear but is, after 24 hours, red and will go purple and a tiny bit thicker in texture by Autumn so allowing for plum vodkas and tonic on Guy Fawkes Night and at least two, pretty alcoholic, plumb crumbles iun the run up to Christmas. If that does not persuade daughter Olaf who is, as you know, a “moderate drinker, to put in an appearance nothing will.
