I am dusting off an Ireland shirt for tomorrow, supper round at the house of C, my pal from Munster and then the big game for the Old Country. I shall be hiding behind the sofa as the men in green take on New Zealand. But hang on what on earth is the leader of Eire Leo Varadkar saying? Is that a blood libel against Israel? You bet it is.
The Taoiseach was speaking to the national broadcaster RTE last night and while he condemned Hamas, urging it to release hostages, he piped up that Israel targeting civilians and cutting off civilian infrastructure is “a breach of humanitarian law”. What the hell is that?
Israel is targeting Hamas fighters. It warns civilians to leave buildings where Hamas fighters are hiding. It is deliberately NOT targeting civilians even when Hamas uses them as human shieds. There is only one side in the war of the past few days that has targeted civilians and that, very evidently, is Hamas. You know the folks who behead Jewish babies, rape Jewish girls, kidnap holocaust survivors, burn families alive and that sort of thing.
To falsely accuse Israel of targeting civilians is a blood libel which Varadkar wants to take up with the rest of the EU. If he does so, Ireland should be a Pariah state and Varadkar should be one of the accursed, whose soul burns in hell.
As for Israel cutting off electricity, can the ghastly pipsquek Varadkar name one other war of the past hundred years where one side supplied power to the other?
