Little Owen Jones has this morning defended his chums who run Gaza, that is to say Hamas, from the charge of Homophobia by blaming the British Empire for oppressive laws in the rogue State. His logic is so terrifyingly illogical that Jones makes my cat seem like Einstein.
In 1936 the wicked Britishers banned Homosexuality in what was then the Transjordan protectorate under the British Mandate Criminal Code. So far so good Owen. No doubt the whole region was, before that, a haven of tolerance with Pride week lasting, as it now does across the West, for about 11 months a year. One suspects not… It is not as if the Transjordan was a rainbow coloured sea of tolerance before the evil Britishers imposed such an unjust law.
The areas within what was the Transjordan protectorate are now Gaza, Israel, The West Bank and Jordan. In the West Bank and Jordan they have managed to throw off the heritage of the evil Britishers and homosexuality is no longer illegal although same sex marriages are not allowed. In Israel anything goes including same sex marriages and Pride parades (the only ones in the Middle East). Gay refugees from Arab nations, but especially Gaza, are welcome in Israel.
But in Gaza not only do the 1936 rules applying meaning that gays can face 10 years in the slammer but Hamas has actually tightened the law since coming to power in 2008 and gays are routinely killed. Here is what one young man recently told a newspaper about why he no longer lived in Gaza:
When he was 17, Hamas caught him having sex with his boyfriend, imprisoning him for three days.
“They put me in a tiny room that was two-by-two meters. They wouldn’t let me sleep or go to the bathroom inside. There was no food. They would torture me so badly,” he told i24NEWS.
“Sometimes, they would tie my feet up and beat them with a stick. After that, every few years, they would arrest me and torture me in the same way.”
Over the course of five years, he says Hamas would kidnap him off of the streets, torture him, and then rerelease him. Finally, at 22, they let him go for the last time.
He was forced to take an oath on the Quran that he wouldn’t “be gay again.”
For two years, he lived on the streets until he managed to scrape together enough money to escape into Egypt and then make his way to Turkey.”

Perhaps Owen Jones thinks that this behaviour by Hamas was down to the evil Britishers too? The willingness of Jones to throw logic out of the window in order to excuse the savages of Hamas seems to know no bounds. Only one part of the area known as Transjordan bans homosexuality and that is Gaza so the British are to blame for that, while 2 other Arab run areas and the evil Jews have somehow managed to change course despite the British. Whatever…
