As a stalwart member of his chapel, my son Joshua is very much a traditionalist when it comes to Advent calendars. Last year there were howls of protest when the Mrs got one from the chapel which turned out to be loaded with chocolate. And thus I have returned to the company recommended by my old pal Malcolm Stacey, HERE
Trying to get a calendar in the shops which has anything at all to do with Advent is almost impossible and perhaps that is why almost nobody seems to know what Advent means. On the radio the other day I heard a discussion about Advent calendars for Easter and for other celebrations.
Joshua and Jaya will take it in turns opening windows and Joshua will read the snippets behind each window telling the story of the coming of Jesus. The calendar is hanging in the kitchen and each morning the kids say “how many days to Advent?” That is followed shortly afterwards by “how many days to Christmas?” It is that time of the year.
