I have my own battle with Bath Spa University. The time is now almost right to relay to you the Orwellian treatment it dished out to me but more critically to my wife after I gave THIS outstanding lecture. Suffice to say it is an Orwellian, woke shit-hole with zero credibility in terms of academic rigour. Bath Spa should also be reminded of its horrific treatment of academic James Caspian after the publication of the seminal Cass Report.
Dr Hilary Cass has outlined what can only be described as institutional child abuse, with drugs doled out like sweeties and body maiming surgery performed on 9,000 kids who thought they wished to change gender, Many of those kids regret what has happened but for a while few dared to challenge militant trans activists with their demands for more such procedures to be performed.
Those of us who called this out as child abuse were termed bigots and transphobes. Quisling politicians of all parties went along with this. It is good to see Wes Streeting of Labour saying he no longer things folks with penises can be women and recanting. But wind back to 2017 when James Caspian, a fairly woke fellow and, I think, gay was accepted by Bath Spa to do a doctoral thesis studying the 25% or more of folks who had suffered gender reassignment surgery and regretted it and wanted to “detransition.”
This was a legitimate area of study. Caspian never suggested that nobody be allowed to transition, far from it. But if the research threw up anything which meant that, going forward, fewer folks underwent surgery and drug treatment which they later regretted, that would be a very good thing, would it not?
Well, some West Country trans activists thought not. They argued that any challenge to the idea that growing numbers of folks wanted to change gender undermined their movement. They lobbied Bath Spa and insisted that allowing Caspian to do his work would show Bath Spa up in a bad light, as institutionally transphobic. Bath Spa dd not tarry but quickly stabbed Caspian in the back and rescinded his opportunity to do his research.
An academic institution should support legitimate research, especially if it might have a clear social good. But Bath Spa did not do that. It caved to activists making shrill and unreasonable demands.
Perhaps some young folks now regretting being mutilated since 2017 might have been spared that pain by Caspian’s work. Those at Bath Spa who made this decision should consider that and offer their resignations in shame. They will not. Nobody will ever be held responsible for this appalling decision for, as I can personally testify, Bath Spa is rotten to the core.
