Joshua is keen that we make nettle cordial and from that nettle ice cream. And so we shall, but first things first: nettle beer.
I always make some of it, bottled up, for Sharestock. And so with 18 days to the big day, I am brewing hard. What you see below, a basket full of nettle tops from the river bank weighs a pitiful half a kilo. I need twice that to make 4 litres or 12 bottles. Forgive me Uncle Chris for the use of the metric.
There being no shortage of nettles here at the farm, I am aiming to make 4 litres a day each day until I have sixteen litres sitting in brewers buckets waiting to bottle after a week. Most Sharestock attendees prefer wine, Wrexham Lager or Cheshire Cat Ale. But for those with a more adventurous palate we are on track. Meanwhile another litre of ice cream, elderflower flavour, is in production forSharestock and tomorrow’s llitre will be plum flavoured.
