Tesco and the pork sausages: Jew hatred in Wrexham 2024

I make a point of buying a pot of Sabre houmous evert time I visit Tesco as it is the only product I can guarantee is Israeli and I want to show my support. A couple of times I have removed pro Palestinian stickers from the shelf, handed them to staff and complained.  This time it was rather more nasty.

Reaching into the shelf my hand gripped something that was not a houmous pot. Retrieving it, I found I was holding a packet of “Richmond Pork Sausages”. Since I am not Jewish myself this does not bother me but I imagine that a good few of those buying the Israeli houmous, which is jolly expensive but tastes great, are doing so to make the same point as me. And some of those folks will be Jewish.

I took the sausages to the staff manning the self-checkouts because at the time I shop there are no tills open. I handed it over and said where I had found it and one piped up “that could have been deliberate”. I said very firmly that it was deliberate and it’s a hate crime. She and her colleague seemed to agree, and showed some disgust but nothing will happen.  Tesco could examine its CCTV footage but you can bet the ranch that it will not bother.

Those sausages were not there to have a go at Israel but to upset Jews and make them feel unwelcome. This is the state of Britain today.
