Victoria Derbyshire insisted to some poor Republican that Donald Trump had “packed” the Supreme Court. In fact, of course, it is the Democrats who explicitly threaten to pack the court, that is to say appointing extra justices so as to overturn the current 6:3 conservative majority, ripping up a constitutional check and balance.
Trump merely appointed 3 conservative justices as vacancies fell due. If a justice dies when a Democrat is President then a liberal justice would be appointed as a successor. That is how the constitution works, it is not packing. Yet an “expert journalist” just stated otherwise. I fear there will be more such nonsense tonight.
But I have agreed not to shout at the TV even if I see, with joy, liberals at Dem HQ crying me a river as results come in. That was a highlight of my 2016.
My hope that that we will get data from Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and New Hampshire early enough for we Brits for Trump to start to relax. If the signs are that Trump is winning the first two of those states it is all to play for but if he is on track to pick up either of the other two, both historically Democrat, that is a sign of a national trend but also that he can get to 270 electoral college votes even if he losses the three rust belt swing states (Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan).
If the result goes to the wire we will not know it for days if not weeks as the democrats bus in the votes of 300,000 dead folks from Pennsylvania. If, however, it is not close, then it will all be over by early Wednesday morning with one candidate more or less conceding. The polls tell you Kamala Harris will not win the electoral college easily. She either squeaks it or Trump wins anything from narrowly to, as he would say, bigly.
As all my podcasts suggest, my analysis is that Trump wins and, for what it is worth, I now feel more optimistic that the GOP will pick up more than two seats in the Senate leaving it firmly under its control. Ohio is looking ever better to join Montana and West Virginia in turning red.
So the apples await as do I, the guessing game ends soon.
