Photo Article from the Welsh hovel: Christmas Carol party

First, over mince pies (bought in) and home made brandy butter or cream plus mulled wine, potent and made with my special recipe, the 24 of us practised with “Away in a manger”. Then we headed off up the lane to see an elderly and, this year, bereaved, neighbour.

In our first year here I drove this neighbour, now not very mobile, to midnight mass in the village with which we share a vicar. This year a couple of carols on the doorstep and a mince pie with brandy butter instead.

Then back home for more Carols around the tree, a stew from me followed by home made summer fruit crumble and home made Christmas pudding set ablaze in the traditional way. The carols were the traditional ones, not the odd modern ones you hear at School nativity events.

After a long shift in the kitchen, I hope a good time was had by all. Next Carols, Joshua’s school at Chester Cathedral on Wednesday
