The day before Joshua and I started the drive to Greece was the Christening of my daughter Jaya in the small Methodist chapel where the Mrs and Joshua worship every Sunday. With my cousin Alex Booker among the three Godparents, alongside my wife’s oldest friend and local earth mum C, it was a splendid day as 40 folks packed into the chapel. Afterwards we headed back to the hovel for Indian main courses prepared by “chef Vijay” who also catered for our wedding nine years ago. And thereafter a selection of my ice creams which received rave reviews.
It touched 40 yesterday in Kalamata, here in Greece and it will be hotter for days and days as we get into August. Nobody panics, life goes on, there are no meetings of Greece’s equivalent of COBRA but back in Blighty it seems as if the country is collapsing thanks to its two day heatwave. Thanks to the Daily Star I bring advice from a medic for my female readers on how NOT to react. A doctor has warned…
45 years ago I was pushed back into that freezing outdoor pool at Warwick School behind the “new gym” as I tried to haul myself out. There was no real malice by the three boys who did it (Petley R, Townsend & Moffatt A) but what happened was part of a culture of bullying which teachers just overlooked. Moffat A was, in particular, a real bully in my years in the junior school. Both his parents taught there and so that was just part of life, part of what made Warwick such an appalling place. On this occassion, my ankle caught between the iron bar that went around the pool and the edge of the pool. As I struggled for breath the ankle became horribly twisted. I could not walk for many weeks. It has never fully recovered.
After an early evening swim with Joshua I sat on the balcony at the front of the house and this is the view as the sun went down. Beat that…
I wore an Irish rugby shirt, in case they thought I was English. Their xenophobia was matched only by their economic illiteracy, as we were graced with a video message from blood-soaked IRA Sinn Fein. Those at the March have passion on their side, but few fact-based arguments – however much they pretend otherwise. The march, and my two Welsh kids, are pictured below. (For the record, I still want Welsh independence).
Those attending ShareStock will enjoy a full range of homemade jams, alongside breakfast croissants and tea-time scones. First up is the gooseberry jam, made with dessert gooseberries. There may be another pot to come, but for now, that is it. Next up, blackcurrant and strawberry jams.
Okay, not a cracking yield. When your potatoes start flowering, you should – I am told – take a look beneath the soil. So I did. These are the yields from two plants. It was enough to eat roasted with a chicken, along with homegrown broad beans, courgettes and a lettuce salad. Fear not, if you worry we’ll run out. These are two plants from some 25 in tranche one. Tranche two will be hilled for a second time, and should be ready in August, while Tranche three was planted last week.
Much to my surprise, all 12 tomato seeds have taken. Thus, I worked late into the night on a small patch of the jungle, bringing it into life as a tomato bed. In addition to the ten plants I was given by a friend, I hope to be drowning in tomatoes by autumn. We shall see. It was about nine when I finished. I leant on my rake, pondering the last roped-off patc
First off, I am not a Putin apologist. That I must stress this, is a sign of the Group Think at play. I walk through the rewriting of history from World War Two to 2014, addressing the catalogue of lies we are fed by the political and media classes. It is not in my name. We must all consider the facts, and stand up to this – just as we should all have done during the Covid Group Think. Those of us who did challenge that Group Think, were told we had blood on our hands. We are now vindicated - it is the Group Think leaders who should be in jail. Before you slate me on Ukraine, listen to this podcast and consider the facts I present, not the lies you are being told.
I haven’t enjoyed a gooseberry fool since my mother made them, almost fifty years ago. But the dessert gooseberries are now ready, red – not green – and sweeter than ordinary gooseberries. So, I thought I might tempt Joshua, with a bit less sugar than the traditional recipe.
The 1973 “Roe vs Wade” ruling has been overturned which, according to the liberal media and “progressives” elsewhere, is tantamount to a ban on abortion. Of course, it is not. In honour of almost 64 million lives ended by abortion since Roe vs Wade, here are the awful facts.
Okay, not entirely homegrown. But a triumph, not least in that Joshua – a picky eater – decided he now loves marrow (aka. a very big courgette, cooked like a marrow, with minced meat and cheese). Then…
The event was hydrocarbon-powered. Greta Thunberg, the doom goblin, flew in to address the masses as they cheered her on. Natch, they were all sitting beneath Pride banners, waving their Ukrainian flags. Below is what they left behind.
There are a few firsts in last night’s produce, all of which came from what was once the jungle, but is now a football pitch-sized vegetable garden.
The behind-closed-doors enquiry continues into historic abuse at Warwick School. Victims like me aren’t allowed to see reports into what went on, even when – as in my case – the school has already concluded that I was physically abused by serial sadist, Geoffrey Eve, and apologized in private. Nor has there been any public apology or statement, as we victims ALL want. And, I fear, Warwick remains in denial as to the scale of historic sexual abuse.
