Before any of those backers of frauds who troll me report me to the Hedgehog or grass snake protection leagues, I did a thorough inspection of our bonfire to ensure no wildlife was resident in it during the afternoon of November 5th. Loose branches have been accumulating for ages but last week I added some junk from the barns and on Friday all the packaging from the stream of Amazon orders made by the Mrs finally came into use.

Having batted for the liberal cause throughout the 2020 US election, ABC News was delighted to report celebrations for Joe Biden not just in America but in London too.

Notwithstanding the fact that we had the same conversation a year ago, I asked the Mrs this morning to name the year of the Gunpowder Plot. She ummed a bit so I said “how about to the nearest 10 years”. She countered with “how about to the nearest hundred?” Okay said I and she answered 1776.

It is only a few days ago that I was bemoaning how the true meaning and heritage of All Soul’s Night or Hop-tu-Naa had been lost into another alcohol fuelled consumer-fest that is Halloween. Now the Mrs thinks that I am turning into Peter Hitchens as we approach Guy Fawkes Night, or as it is known these day Bonfire Night. My thoughts turn to my childhood, forty five or more years ago and a different world.

As we start to discover the latest damning revelations about sleazy MPs and their expense fiddles it seems harsh to burn an effigy of poor old Guy Fawkes tonight. He was the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions. So whose effigy should it be?
Judging by the comments on my latest article on the McCann parents about half the population think that an effigy of Kate McCann should be burned. About the other half seem to believe that anyone who dares say a word about the sainted McCann’s should be burned. Forget effigies they should actually be burned.
Which is the bigger war criminal? President Assad or President Obama or for that matter Tony Blair? What about en effigy of Polly Toynbee – the old witch has been poisoning the body politic with her muddle headed thoughts for years, she has to be a contender.
Me? I am just too much of a nice guy. I am more worried about how the cats will react to the fireworks than whose effigy should be burned. But there are many folks more deserving of the effigy treatment than poor old Guy Fawkes.
Oh, ok...you push me. For her unique contriubution to driving through insane human rights legislation, for her vile condoning of Hamas, for supporting her war criminal of a husband, for being a filthy freeloader and for being wrong on every great issue and sanctimoniuous with it, for her sheer avarice ...I'd burn an effigy of the Wicked Witch herself, Ms Cherie Blair.

It is perhaps not the greatest film ever made but for those of us who instinctively mistrust and despise the political class it is worth watching at least once a year and with November 5 approaching now is as good a time as any.
The squalor of the 3p expense claim made by Liam Fox MP (personal wealth estimated at £1 million) just reminded me how much I loathed those who rule us. Fox wants to restrict abortion, he opposes gay marriage, he voted for a smoking ban (and then against), he voted for the illegal war in Iraq, he thinks he has a right to tell us how we should live our lives, what we should do with our own bodies. And then that we should recompense him three frigging pence because he cannot be bothered to walk 100 yards down the road.
Fox is by far and away not the most despicable member of the political class. He is merely one of many despicable members of that class who trough it big time as they make our world ever more authoritarian and unpleasant.
If you have never seen, the speech from V for Vendetta have a butchers and then get the whole movie out on DVD in time for Guy Fawkes night.

Are you getting a pay rise this year? Not many folks are. Some like those on welfare are, in real terms, getting a cut. Pensioners are worse off thanks in part to low interest rates. The Government needs to slash its spending. To sack people. To make them unemployed. As Call Me Dave said “we are all in it together.” Er… not quite. Some folks are more equal than others. MPs are demanding a pay rise. A 32% pay rise. Where is Guy Fawkes when you need him? These pigs are beneath contempt.
An MP already gets paid £65,378 a year plus expenses. Those were meant to have been reformed but
