Orderly business succession is what we like as investors. Folks get old, folks move on and want fresh challenges but well run companies plan for this and do not make a drama out of what does not need to be a crisis.

K3 Business Technology (KBT) has announced that Adalsteinn Valdimarsson, who joined as a NED on 11 July, is to become CEO. Chief Executive Officer, David Bolton will step up to assume the role of Executive Chairman and Lars-Olaf Norell will return to the position of Non-executive Director, as previously announced. This is orderly. It shows K3 is well run. Perhaps that is why we are 133% ahead on this share tip.

Drat. There is that phrase again. Results for the year to June 30th 2016 are expected to be "broadly" in line. That is stockmarket speak for "a near miss". No wonder the shares fell a tad on the announcement to 310-333p. We are well ahead of our 148p offer share tip but down on a few months ago.

I am normally pretty rude about the prostitute of the research world, commissioned researcher Edison but today I agree with it. Yikes, I must be suffering from sunstroke after a hard morning hacking away at olive trees. Edison reckons that at 209p K3 Business Technology (KBT) is cheap on the back of a trading update and could be worth 250p plus. Having tipped this stock at 148p on my Nifty Fifty website I welcome Edison to the fan club and I agree with its conclusion.

Why do companies issue shares? Because they need cash. Why do they say they are issuing shares? Er….well it is never because they are running out of cash, of course! There are two standard excuses which you see in RNS after RNS and they just do not wash.
The first is that the company is issuing shares “in response to institutional demand.” The most laughable RNS in this vein in recent weeks in this vein came from K3 Business Technology (KBT). Its shares had halved in value and it was issuing shares “in response to institutional demand.” Pull the other one…

Ahead of interim results expected in mid March, AIM listed K3 Business Technology (LSE:KBT) has, disappointingly, announced that “due to the deferral in signing certain significant retail deals, coupled with investment in the group’s Microsoft AX offering, K3 will generate pre-tax profits below current market forecasts”. This has seen the share price fall back to 112.5p. Is the reaction overcooked. I write as someone who recommended the shares at 148p before Christmas. Clearly my timing was not great.

I initially recommended shares in K3 Business Technology (KBT), an AIM-listed provider of software, hosting and managed services to the supply chain industry, at 145p in August 2007 on t1ps, the website I founded in 2000 but departed from in September of this year. The shares hit 236.5p in 2011 and again traded above 200p earlier this year before falling back to the initial tip price on news on 18th September of this year that the company was to terminate a formal sale process as the board did not believe that takeover proposals received were at a level that it would be able to recommend to shareholders. With the share price at 147.5p following an AGM trading update today, the following reviews this and the current investment case here…
