The little girly snowflake swat has just been on the phone to let us know that, despite Brexit and global warming, she has got a First, in French and History, from Oxford. Suffice to say I am a very proud dad but have no idea where she gets it from.
My Dad was viva’d for a first and claimed, rightly I think, that standards have fallen at the City of lost causes but like Olaf he managed to work hard as well as drinking too much. I think that I was bloody lucky to get a 2:2 having been almost as idle as the father of my mother, who herself got a second in French and Russian before 2nds were divided. My maternal grandfather was always rather vague about what degree he scraped but I think it may have been a 4th. My paternal grandfather got an undivided second, again a bit too much drinking keeping him away from the first.
And so maybe that hard working gene comes from Olaf’s mum Big Nose who got a 2-1 in law from the sameestablishment but always insists that she was robbed. She’s a bit of a swat too so she might really have come close to a Geoff.
Anyhow, it’s a great start to the day. It was just 22 years and two weeks ago that Olaf was born weighing just 1lb 4oz, a miracle baby. And here we are today. Next stop drama school and a career as an actor like her great great aunt Ana Lee. Onwards and upwards, well done Olaf.
